Sarah Haskins, Ben Collins Lead Race to Toyota Cup Following May 28 Capital of Texas Triathlon

CHANHASSEN, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Capital of Texas Triathlon, held Monday, May 28, marked the second event of the Race to the Toyota Cup Life Time Triathlon Series.

Within the female professional division, 2011 defending female champion, Sarah Haskins (USA) outlasted Annabel Luxford (AUS) and Jillian Peterson (USA) to earn her second straight victory in the seven-event Series. Haskins completed the course in 1:57:58. Among male professionals, Hunter Kemper (USA), held off Andy Potts (USA) and Ben Collins (USA) to capture the victory. Kemper’s time was 1:45:50.

The Series now moves on to the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon, which is set for Sunday, June 24.

The 2012 Race to the Toyota Cup professional division offers $574,000 in cash prizes, along with awards and a Toyota Vehicle. The vehicle and coveted Toyota Cup are given to the top female and male champions at the Toyota U.S. Open Triathlon in Dallas – the Series Championship event.

Professional Division points are determined by awarding 0.5 points to the athlete with the fastest swim, cycle and run legs at each event. In the female professional division, Haskins boasted the fastest swim with a time of 18:40, while Peterson turned in the fastest cycle with a time of 1:01:31. Haskins also turned in the fastest run with a time of 35:01.

On the professional men’s side, Dustin McLarty secured the fastest swim with a time of 17:05, while Collins turned in the fastest cycle with a time of 54:27. Kemper turned in the fastest run with a time of 30:05.
